Speaking to inform, ignite, and inspire

Video excerpt from Dr. Myron’s experiment:

Tolga used his second speech to ignite us: if you believe in you, others will believe in you. To highlight his point he shared Dr. Myron’s experiment from 1976 in which the speaker’s confident body language influenced his audience more that his nonsensical, non-expert verbal language.

Mariana informed us of the ugly truths of Mass Food Production. Her well-researched speech peaked visually with images of a chicken from 1950 and the current fatter, faster growing version we have now. It was a great example of the power of visuals. The room echoed with her call to action: buy locally, look at food labels, use your consumer power!  http://bioberlin.wordpress.com/

Member Alin paid our club an official visit in his role as Area Governor. He inspired us to move beyond our communication goals and expand our vision to include leadership: Toastmasters where leaders are made. His eye-catcher was a book in his hand: Setting Limits with your Strong-willed Child by Robert Mackenzie.  The soon-to-be father Alin said, the book contained 200 pages with the same message: be clear and be consistent – also the two traits of a focused leader.

Dyane led the Table Topics with 4 dialogues where the speakers pulled something out of thin air and told us about it. Holger exclaimed, “it was like Toastmasters on steriods”, laughing hysterically as Renko described electrons spinning out of our ceiling. Hossein, our guest from Cottbus via Pakistan,  captured the secret of improvising successfully:
“I left my head off and just trusted my body.”

Khushi graciously thanked all members for their support during her long journey through 4 contests to the District Finals in Krakow.
